Canada joins EU marine monitoring super-network with eye on ocean economy boost

Claire Kleinknecht, a policy analyst at Marine Renewables Canada, an industry group, said OceanEye’s contribution to a deeper understanding of marine systems could help offshore renewable energy development in Canadian and international waters.

“Strengthening ocean observation, monitoring technologies, and international data sharing will improve our understanding of marine ecosystems and support informed decision-making related to climate, biodiversity, and ocean uses,” she said.

“For Canada’s marine renewable energy sector, access to high-quality ocean data is key for responsible project development and the sustainable growth of offshore wind, tidal, wave energy,” Kleinknecht added.
